Shaving Man

First things first, what is a razor bump?

A razor bump, to put it simply is an ingrown hair. This ingrown hair occurs when shaved strands of hair curl inwards back towards the skin. These get irritated and cause pimples and if they’re really severe, can cause scarring. Razor bumps are more common in African American men who have curly beards.

So what causes this to happen? The hair follicle gets infected with bacteria thus causing the skin to become inflamed with pimples is that area. Anybody can get razor bumps, but especially with either curly or spirally hair are more susceptible. Because of this some men just won’t shave anymore and grow out their beards instead of going through with all the hassle that is razor bumps.
By following these helpful hints, shaving won’t seem so much as a nightmare as it was before.

  • Moisten your skin before shaving. Wet your face with lukewarm water first or go for your shower/bath. By doing this you’ll make the hairs softer and open up the pores on your skin.
  • Use a Thicker Shaving Gel
  • Don’t stretch your skin while you shave. Always shave in the direction that your hair is growing, while using less shaving strokes.
  • Why not try and electric razor instead of a manual one? If you do make sure you don’t set it to the lowest setting.
  • When you’re all done just splash water on your face and to make doubly sure razor bump won’t appear, apply a moisturiser.

Men's Natural Skin Care and Shaving Tips

The beauty routine of the average typical man is as follows: get up out of bed, shave (or not shave), wash their face off and out the door to work or play. Sounds pretty boring hey? As you’ve probably noted guys don’t really care about what they use or don’t use when it comes to their skin health. So why should men care about their skin? Simple, just like women, men are vain about how they look as well. And are especially conscious of that well known skin irritant known as razor rash.

Men's Natural Shaving Tips

Of course men aren’t obviously going to rush out the door and buy copious amounts of lotions, moisturisers, soaps and shaving creams. In all honesty, less is best. The more you apply to the skin the more chances of irritating the skin. Let’s have a closer look at men’s skin to help those guys who want to eliminate the horrible razor rash!
The skin on a man’s face is actually thicker than on a woman’s face, and as we all know men don’t wear make-up, so men’s skin care is relatively a simple easy affair. Men who have either a heavy beard, curly or kinky hair are more prone to the dreaded razor rash and other skin irritants as well. Let’s learn some simple easy skin care tips to help make razor rash a thing of the past and to help keep that smooth handsome face every day!

1.     Soap Bars or Liquid Soaps?

Men are guilty of using to harsher soaps and facial scrubs resulting in dry skin, which in turn makes them look older and more wrinkled. Guys you need to choose gentler soaps and cleansers for your face. If you want to use soap bars, go for the moisturising kinds with beneficial oils such as: jojoba oil or Olive oil, with the help of extra Vitamin E for smoother looking skin that the ladies will want to touch forever.
If you have any acne issues due to having oily skin then you should consider a facial scrub as well to help remove any dead skin cells and allow for a deeper clean of your skin.

2.     Picking your Razor and Shaving Cream

Since men shave up to 5 times a week it’s safe to say that when a man finds a comfortable way to shave he sticks to it. Why change what’s working right? Wrong. If your same shaving routine is still causing you to cut or nick yourself, giving you razor burn then you need to change it. Choosing your razor is the most important tool is your shaving kit! In choosing the right razor take into consideration your skin’s sensitivity and how course your beard is when it grows.

Which razor should be chosen if you have an ingrown hair issue? Well it’s recommended that you steer clear of multi-blade razors as they tend to pull on the hairs that lie a little deeper to cause razor burn. A single or double blade razor is preferable or you could go for the electric razor.

Next selecting your shaving cream. Go for shaving creams that have exfoliating elements in then such as: glycolic acid or salicylic acid. Having a hypoallergenic product with no fragrance also helps lessen skin irritation. If your face does get irritated easily then be sure to use a shaving cream with Aloe Vera in it as well.

3.     Shaving Technique and After-Shave

Ok so this seems pretty self-explanatory right? It is. Shaving with the direction of the hair will cause less irritation then shaving against the grain so to speak. Once you’ve finished shaving then the next thing is the after-shave you use.
After-shave is important because it hydrates and seals the skin. Be sure to stay away from alcohol-based after-shaves as alcohol dries the skin out.

4.     How to Avoid Sandpaper Skin

Ladies are attracted to touching smooth soft skin and not rough sandpaper skin. To avoid disappointing your special lady, you’ll need to moisturise your face. Choosing moisturisers may make you feel girly but it’s necessary if you want the ladies lining up and give you a very kissable face.
Choosing a moisturiser will depend on what skin type you are. For those of you with dry skin chose a moisturiser with a thicker formulation. For those with normal skin choose a lighter moisturiser and those with oily skin go for skin toner or a gel instead.

The same for your beard. Although to keep your beard maintained use conditioner. If your beard’s unruly as well, break out the beard styling gel.
